Chapter 1: A hollow beginning, part 1

A jarring wail filled the room as a new life finally made its appearance in the world of Anozhov. Bellowing loudly, the babe writhed in the auburn-haired woman's arms, whose expression was both overjoyed and yet, devastated at the same time. Hikari could only choke out one thing at the baby's father, who held the mother's deathly still body in his trembling arms.

It's a boy.”

Angel... please, you can't leave me,” the father said as he held his wife, his love, his life closer, as if his strength could prevent her from dying.

The woman smiled faintly, pressing a gentle kiss to her husbands cheek as Hikari waveringly put the young child in Angel's arms. “Lucian... I'm sorry... I can't hold out anymore...”

No! I won't let you!” Lucian Connors sobbed, “Never!”

You can't stop this...” Angel said weakly, “Be strong... for...” her voice started to soften as her life began to ebb from her, “Our... son... Sebastian...” her last words, proclaiming her son's name escaped with a sigh as her hands fell limply to her sides.

NO!” the blond let loose an anguished howl of rage and despair as he cradled his wife and son in his arms. “No...”

Hikari stepped back, eyes glittering with tears as she buried her head in her boyfriend's shoulder, a strapping, green-eyed blond like the broken man before him. His name, was Shinji Connors, Lucian Connors brother. Shinji held Hikari tightly, lending her his strength even as he grieved for his brother.

In the room, a few others closed their eyes. The Enforcers of the Moon Canyon grieved.

Drake Darksummers brushed his hand through his sweat-stained hair, his eyes brimming with tears for the vibrant young woman that had been his friend and sister.

Sean Tudor slumped against the wall in despair.

Raven and Ragnar Kendrick stood vigil as they watched their leader grieve with equal pain and sorrow. All had known Angel. All of them loved her. She was the epitome of gentle yet fierce, a tigress who cared greatly for her people, the Vampires, and was, in fact, the Queen of Vampires at one point.

A sudden tremor rocked the house.

Drake Darksummers perked up, his gaze sharp. “I'll go check it out,” he said as he vanished into the shadows. He reappeared with a pale look, “We have a giant demon heading this way. The primordial one. I think it's the Fenrir.”

Sean gaped, “That one! But I thought he was just a legend? A myth?”

Drake shook his head, “Apparently not. Its chakra and energies are all golden. This is the Fenrir we're talking about. The real McCoy. It could be impossible to beat seeing how strong it's gotten.”

We can't let it into the village,” Ragnar growled, “Could destroy everything. Me want to go handle it.”

No,” Raven growled. Her husband only spoke like that when he was excited, “Absolutely not.”

But...”

No.”

Shinji looked at his brother. Lucian slowly got to his feet. “Hikari?”

Hikari stepped forward.

Take care of Angel and Sebastian for me,” he said as his battle armour rippled onto his body, “I'm going out there.”

Then we're coming with you,” Drake said.

Lucian nodded, his eyes glowing gold. “Then we move out.”

***Outside.

A titan of a wolf smashed through the mountainside without a scratch. Snarling, it gave a massive howl that leveled trees and nature in its wake.

A single swing of its massive tail could level whole mountains like the hapless one that just got crushed, or even raise tsunamis. Few mountains could equal its size in Anozhov, and even fewer could dwarf it. No one knew why it had come to the Moon Canyon, but the one thing its inhabitants knew was this: it was furious.

Howling ferociously, uncaring of the path of destruction it had created, it set it sights on the Moon Canyon. The Fenrir's golden fur gleamed ominously in the moonlight as swatted aside more treefolk that had decided to take up arms against it. None survived the first stare. The Fenrir paused, eyes seemingly void of emotions as it fired a blast of chakra from its mouth, plowing through more resistance it had encountered.

A sudden spike in power alerted the demon to their presence. Snarling, it turned its head, only to wince slightly as a powerful blow hit it in the face, hard. Lucian Connors hovered in the air, his arm aching as the demon fixated its black eyes upon the Werewolf King. Lucian felt a prickling sense of unease. Something about those eyes... His eyes widened as he felt the Fenrir's enormous tail move forward. He dodged, firing a beam of destructive light at the demon. Fenrir shrugged it off.

This time, another beam struck its nose. Howling, the Fenrir shook its dome-shaped head wildly as a now golden-haired Ragnar took to the skies, conjuring up a gigantic, white coloured ball of energy in the air. “Spirit Bomb!” Ragnar yelled as he flung the sphere at Fenrir.

The Fenrir snarled, and opened its mouth. Everyone watched in awe and fear as the Fenrir ate the ball of energy, before firing it back out. Lucian concentrated, bending all light in the area with a mere thought into a barrier to stop the blast.

Looks like my Saiyan mode can't fight him,” Ragnar growled, “Me not yet good enough for Saiyan two, cause me lack training recently.”

Drake Darksummers reached into the nether world, refining his power into a blade as he and Sean perched by a tree.

Looks like we're going to need help to fight this one,” Sean muttered.

Lucian closed his eyes, “I know.” Reaching out, he gently placed his hand on the bark of a weakened treefolk, “Lend me your aid, Cloudbeard of the Ancient Bosk. I, Lucian Connors, beseech thy help.”

The Fenrir howled even louder, firing a blast from its mouth as Lucian focused harder.

Everyone watched in horror. Would it be too late?
